What is Appetite for Life?
Appetite for Life (AFL) is a healthy lifestyle and weight loss programme for women who are motivated to make lifestyle changes. It focuses is on helping women overcome barriers to adopting healthy behaviours, and aims to provide them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make positive sustainable changes to their food choices and activity levels.
Using an "anti-diet" approach, it assists women to develop a new relationship with food and say no to dieting forever.
What happens on an AFL course?
The programme involves small group sessions for two hours a week over a six week period. Sessions are led by an accredited facilitator. There are about 12-15 women in each group.
Each session involves learning about specific foods and habits, and then educational food tasting sessions in relation to each topic. Food tasting is an important part of the course!!
You'll try new foods, healthy recipes, learn about nutrients, get tips for shopping smarter, and learn about how to prepare nutritious meals for yourself and your family.
What are the benefits?
Women who have taken the course have experienced improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and participants had continued to exercise more and eat more fruit and vegetables following the conclusion of their course.
