Did you know that there are tennis courts at Princess Margaret Hospital, available to use free of charge?
How do I get started?
Virtually anyone can play, provided your CURRENT physical health is at the appropriate level for tennis. To check this, complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) to ensure you are literally physically ready. Completion of this questionnaire is compulsory prior to attending any onsite courses supported by HEAL, since we want to encourage you to enjoy physical activity safely!!
As a guideline, it is strongly advised that you are/become “moderately” physically active (i.e. have been doing some low intensity activity already regularly), and always work at your own level when you play. See the training plans section for more info and guidelines on this and/or join one of the many other initiatives going on around the CDHB.
Attending a course is an ideal way to get started. Five tennis courses have been held at TPMH so far since Oct 2009, and everyone has been loving them! Future courses, including ones over winter will be arranged based on demand. If you are interested, please complete the Tennis Registration of Interest List and email to Yuuko the coach or call her on 381 5434.
Social nights are also a fun way of playing those you might not normally in the fun atmosphere of a group. Simply turn up from 3.30pm on a Tuesday night (first person there grab the key!) and play away! All levels welcome to attend.
Social tournaments bring a bit of friendly competition and learning into the mix. Provided a minimum of 8 people commit to attending this, Yuuko is happy to facilitate these at a cost of $5 per person. Complete the Tennis Registration of Interest List and email Yukko or contact her on 381 5434.
To ensure that the numbers of staff enjoying tennis within the CDHB continue to increase, it is recognised that forming a club will help in its development. We want to develop this as best suits you! Contact Hayley Shearer if you are keen to attend an initial meeting in May 2010.
Want to find some one to play at a time that suits you? There are now quite a number of staff, at all different levels of ability and fitness, on a contact list. This contact list also gives information about their availability (times and days) and where they can play (i.e. not just at TPMH). If you’d like to receive this list, complete your details on the Tennis Contacts List, and email to Hayley Shearer. For privacy reasons this list is only distributed to those on the list.
How can I get access to the courts?
A key to the courts, as well as rackets and balls are now available from the main reception free of charge for staff. You can also take advantage of this to get active with your family and friends outside work hours - simply show your swipe card.
